Curbs can be deceiving. Sometimes they look really low. Or I have a perception problem. many times I continue to walk at my leisurely pace, certain that Diego’s pram will roll smoothly across the road and onto the pavement, and BANG.

Toddler whiplash.

You’d think I’d be used to this by now, with almost three years of pram pushing experience. Apparently not. The only diffrerence is that I am now greeted with a glare and gibberish gobfull, as opposed to wondering about how much it would take to awaken my seemingly comatose newborn…

I remember the first time I took Diego out. He was a few days old and I felt like I needed ‘L’ plates. Now I actually do need them. I battle to get him in, then battle to keep him in, and finally battle to get him out. By this time he has decided he likes being in the pushchair after all. He is not coming out. Ever.

So on Monday, I decided it would be a lovely idea to go for a family walk in Walesby Moor Woods. Without the dangerous pushchair driving, and to keep the toddler happy. he could be a big boy and walk by himself. It’s a quiet wood after all. There is nobody for Diego to run away with…

It started smoothly. He followed the path with a smile on his face, and called me when he came across pine cones, leaves and flowers. I wondered why we hadn’t made this leap before. Ten minutes later, he wrapped his arms around my leg and refused to move, insisting that he wanted to be carried. “His legs didn’t like walking.”

Yes, so far so good. I have made zero correct parenting decisions so far and the Easter holidays have only just begun…

  • This Month’s Theme

The idea of talking about Christmas in September divides the nation, but we’re going to do it anyway, because the next issue is planned for release just in time for the holidays!

In the past we’ve focused on the commercial side, and on entertainment, but this year we’re thinking a little differently.

While we are still accepting content on any topic and still love to read all your reviews, we would like to put an emphasis on feelgood stories, things that can open our eyes or make us feel something, whether that’s advice on conquering a fear or goal, stories from real people in the community, celebrations and events, stories of experiences or foreign, far off places, or perhaps something as simple as a warming family recipe.

Good luck, and happy writing! Content deadline November 1st.
