The Walking Dead Game
‘The Walking Dead’ will soon be back on our screens, but have you had a chance to play the popular game version yet?
The Walking Dead Game is a survival horror adventure game based on the comics of the same name, but it is also one of the few games that has a story that will stays with you for a while after finishing the story. The characters and the moments stick in your memory for days if not a few weeks. It just has such a beautiful story and manages to make the characters very lifelike so the player connects with them in a way not often seen in video games.
It has a level of immersion with the story and characters not quite achieved by any other game. It almost feels real in the way that you and your team help each other survive and all your choices matter. Your choices in game can change who lives and who dies; they can shape the characters around you and help you to gain their trust. You can have an impact on the people around you in a similar way to real people in a way that matters, and while sometimes the story punishes you for your choices it will also sometimes reward you. You can even share your thoughts with your fellow survivors, mostly to help cheer them up or keep them focused on the task at hand. If characters have a high opinion of you, they may help you survive, while those with a low opinion of you may get in your way and become quite a problem.
Because of this risk factor, the game is very intense and many lovable characters do die inevitably or because of choices you made. It can either overwhelm you with difficult choices or take control right out of your hands. There are some moments where you can relax and others where danger seems to never end. Sometimes it will play out the way you want and other times it will make you accept that you’ll just have to make the best of the situation. Sometimes choices will satisfy you and others you will regret for a long time, maybe even until the end of the game.
Your group is your responsibility and you have to make choices to protect them, even though they won’t always appreciate it and will sometimes question your judgment or try and interfere when you try to lead the group. Ultimately, no matter what happens you will need to keep the group together, and keep them alive and motivated. This will hardly ever be easy but it’s always worth it. You can change how characters feel, behave and how they will react to you, other characters and the challenges the post-apocalyptic world will bring. Even though it’s the same basic zombie survival story throughout the whole game, you will have made a big difference to the characters and events throughout. Your choices will even matter in the next installment, as they will have an impact on the behavior of the surviving characters as you work through the various continuing chapters available.
