‘Soulcalibur VI’ is a 2018 fighting game by Bandai Namco, serving almost as a reboot of the ‘Soulcalibur’ series in a way which makes it perfect for new players. This instalment plays similarly to past games in the series, but for the first time adds a character creation tool, which is surprisingly fun to play around with, the best of its kind to date.
The game also features two different story modes. The first is the main story, in which you follow the tale of your created character, while the second is called Chronicle of Souls, which sees you playing as different characters and viewing each chapter from their own perspective. This mode is great for those who might be lost in the story to get them up to speed.
The gameplay itself is as fun as you’d expect, and a particular feature I like is reversal edge, which triggers a clash of swords between the two already fighting characters, and which always looks fantastic. In fact, all the mechanics are as fun as they should be. Online play is a lot of fun as well, and you can create or join rooms of up to a certain number of players, or just find a ranked match against a randomly selected opponent. For more competitive players, there is also a ranked play feature to give you a goal to work towards. If you’re good enough at the game, that is.
