One Piece World Seeker
‘One Piece World Seeker’ is an open world game based on the One Piece anime, where you play as the show’s main protagonist, Monkey D Luffy, along with the rest of his pirate crew as they travel to a location known as Jewel Island in search of a hidden treasure. When their plan fails, the crew has no choice but to split up and venture to different locations of the island, and some even get arrested by the navy in the proves.
What ‘One Piece World Seeker’ does well is presenting a fantastic looking open world which is also surprisingly a lot of fun to explore. The brilliant 3D art style mimics the look of the show well without coming across weird or out of place. In fact, some of the best things about this game at the cutscenes, which are really well animated. It’s just a shame that most of the game’s dialogue is written text to read, which kind of seems like a wasted opportunity.
A lot of the Straw Hat pirates aren’t really relevant throughout the story either, though we do get a brand new character called Jeanne who is actually well-developed and creates an interesting story arc between herself and Luffy. The gameplay too is a mixed bag. There’s definitely a lot that this game does right, but there is also a lot it’s got wrong, such as the lack of variety in combat, making it soon become old.
‘One Piece World Seeker’ is not a bad game, but it’s not a great one either. For everything it does right, it also does something wrong, and so I’d say it is probably best enjoyed if you’re already a ‘One Piece’ fan, rather than someone who has never seen the anime.
