Jeremy Clarkson Sacked by BBC
Jeremy Clarkson has been fired! The BBC issued a statement reporting that his contract will not be renewed. Obviously (and for good reason too), many people are against this decision. I’m included in this, as it now means that Top Gear as we know it is over.
Apparently, Hammond and May refuse to carry on without Clarkson; I can understand why when you consider how long they’ve actually been working together now. Plus, if they stayed and someone new was brought in, the atmosphere of the show would be so much different. So I hope it’s true that they won’t continue, because it will demonstrate just how close they really are.
Jezza has always been a cause of controversy on Top Gear, mainly because of the things he says. Now, hitting the producer (if he did that is) wasn’t the best decision he’s ever made, and yes it cannot be condoned. But in my opinion, him getting so many warnings for maybe saying a word that one person might think is racist is a little bit silly. Their cars even got attacked because of his licence plate in Argentina.
The truth is, you can’t say anything now without somebody getting offended. And most of the time they take offence on behalf of somebody else, when in actuality that person doesn’t mind at all. I think the world needs to just chill out a little bit, stop being so uptight. If we continue on this course we’ve set for ourselves, free speech will be a phrase that will soon have no meaning at all.
There is a lot of speculation on where Clarkson will go next, but wherever he goes I’m sure his fans will follow. The BBC, on the other hand, is planning to renew Top Gear for 2016. I wonder how many viewers that will get…
