Halo 5 Guardians
‘Halo 5 Guardians’ is the fifth game in the Halo storyline, picking up some time after where ‘Halo 4’ left off. The odd thing about this game is that it introduced a completely new character, Spartan Jameson Locke, who is sent after the Master Chief/Jhon117.
What was most frustrating about ‘Halo 5 Guardians’ was the hype. The tagline “hunt the truth” naturally got a lot of people excited, and the trailers made it seem as though there wasn’t going to be a massive rivalry taking place. And yet unfortunately, nothing shown in the trailers actually happened in the game itself. While the story itself isn’t awful, it is still a massive disappointment, especially compared to other ‘Halo’ titles.
Terrible marketing aside, this is still a fairly decent game in terms of gameplay, but unfortunately it still simply can’t be saved. Some amazing characters from previous games appear here, which would usually be good, only none of them even have anything to do with the story. In fact, only two characters are actually relevant throughout the whole thing, the rest being along simply for the ride. Especially for a main character, Locke is also perhaps the most uninteresting Halo character I have ever seen, as he has absolutely no personality of his own.
All in all, ‘Halo 5’ is a good game to play, but it was ruined by bad storytelling, bad marketing and unjust hype. Hopefully not something we’ll see repeated again.
