Grimsby’s first ‘Urban Arts Festival’ to hit Town Centre
On 19 September 2015, 10am to 5pm, ten UK professional street artists are visiting Grimsby to create live artwork and showcase the best of UK urban street art alongside local talent.
Grimsby’s Urban Arts Festival is a free one day long family event and is a collaboration between Denton Associates and Lyns Urban Art and supported by Arts Council England and Lincs Inspired. Nationally acclaimed professional street artists with a diverse range of styles including Brave, Girls on Top, Mr Zee, Tens and Dime1 will allow the public the chance to experience a unique art form created live on the day.
Taking place in the centre of Grimsby at St James house in the under croft area and in and around the Minster, this new event will see the professional graffiti artists create aerosol art on canvases such as walls, boarding and on packaging wrap. Entertainment will be provided by Hip Hop DJ, live music, MC artists and Blood Masterz a breakdance crew from Leeds. There will also be Urban street food stall and the Minster will host a digital graffiti booth, urban arts and crafts stalls, children’s art activities and urban art exhibitions of historical Grimsby Graffiti and contemporary work.
Paula Denton of Denton Associates said: “This festival is about celebrating and showcasing a form of art that has progressively become mainstream, professional and enhances urban spaces across the world. Our festival is about the public and especially children and young people experiencing and engage with the creative act of street art alongside music and dance in a family friendly event”
Lyns Powles of Lyns Urban Art added: “The festival is a showcase event of the four elements of the hip hop urban art scene both locally and nationally. Graffiti art will be produced by high quality artist in a variety of styles showing what can be produced with a spray can alone and a lot of dedication. We hope this event will help us explore more events in the future.” Lyns is part of ‘GIRLS ON TOP’ a national and international crew with members from London to Australia, painting large scale murals together regularly.
