Featured Designer: Alexander Wang
As one of fashion’s young heroes, Alexander Wang is rapidly expanding his fan-following and becoming a key figure in the industry. His Spring/Summer 2014 collection definitely deserves a look, with his signature relaxed, sporting essence running through it. The young designer gave a knowing nod to his increasing status; embroidering, embellishing and laser-cutting his name into most of the garments. So clever were his methods that he cannot be accused of the nineties style designer logo brandishing, as he worked his name into more of a pattern in the actual fabric so it can only be properly seen when closely admiring the clothes. The muted grey, cream, black and blue tones in the collection reflect their creator’s laid-back approach to fashion when coupled with the clean and minimalistic shapes of the pieces. Wang’s new position as creative director at Balenciaga has given him a greater task to complete, but it has clearly not fazed him. His own line is as original and exciting as ever, while the new Balenciaga job has allowed him a wider platform to display his creativity. This young designer is one to watch.
