Dragon Ball FighterZ
Dragon Ball FighterZ is a 2D Fighting game based off of the popular anime series’ Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super, and it’s a game that manages to lovingly recreate the look of the show excellently, along with the extremely fast paced fighting it offers.
Dragon Ball FighterZ is incredibly addicting in every way. Whether you are playing online or offline, it has a fantastic way or tributing famous moments from the show with something called Dramatic Finishers, where two characters are fighting on a certain map and if one of them finishes their opponent with a certain attack, it will then trigger a cutscene which will recreate a shorter version of a famous scene from the show.
This is really great to see, as you can tell the developers didn’t think of this as just simply another Dragon Ball game. Instead, they made sure the look and feel of the show was well incorporated instead of recycled. I also like how some fighters have little nods to moments in the show, like Nappa having a move where he literally grows Sabermen to attack his opponent.
Considering all the praise I have just given this game, however, I do have a few issues, one of which being the online mode, as it sometimes takes a little bit too long to find an opponent. Another issue I had was that there wasn’t any single fight mode, and the arcade mode seems to repeat itself a lot.
Dragon Ball FighterZ also has its own Story mode, but this is not really anything special. Chances are you will probably run through the whole thing once and then not come back to it after that. But as I said before, the main draw here is the fighting itself, and I will honestly say that in terms of action, this has to be the best anime fighting game to date.
