Christmas Comedy

This month has been one massive drama. I’m not sure if it’s the Christmas cheer turning my son into an elf, but I can’t fault the entertainment in my house.

Last Monday Diego moved all of his toys from his playroom into the kitchen so that the “window fitter man” couldn’t “steal toys.”

On Tuesday Diego told me that he didn’t like me anymore. Nor would he ever like me again. The following day I took him to the doctors. I used my best persuasion tactics to get an appointment as I knew that something was wrong. During the examination Diego decided to repeat, “I don’t like this man” in our Doctor’s face. I have a feeling getting another appointment may be something of a struggle.

On Thursday I covered carrots, mushrooms and bread in mayonnaise as that’s what Diego insisted he was having and on Friday I wanted to disappear from the spot as I tried to talk over Diego as he embarrassingly repeated “Mummy, make that man go away.” as I spoke to an old family friend in the shop.

This Monday whilst having a shower I spotted an extra small child glaring at me through the glass – one I had put to bed about four hours previous.

On Tuesday I took a sock to work with me to avoid a tantrum. I accidentally dropped it on the floor in front of everyone. Dirty stop out. Finally, this morning a plumber came around to install our new bath. Heading out of the door for playgroup Diego decided to shout “Man, are you going to miss me?!”

There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t appreciate. Christmas is that time of year where it is made especially clear just how important those little things are.

  • This Month’s Theme

The idea of talking about Christmas in September divides the nation, but we’re going to do it anyway, because the next issue is planned for release just in time for the holidays!

In the past we’ve focused on the commercial side, and on entertainment, but this year we’re thinking a little differently.

While we are still accepting content on any topic and still love to read all your reviews, we would like to put an emphasis on feelgood stories, things that can open our eyes or make us feel something, whether that’s advice on conquering a fear or goal, stories from real people in the community, celebrations and events, stories of experiences or foreign, far off places, or perhaps something as simple as a warming family recipe.

Good luck, and happy writing! Content deadline November 1st.
